These reinterpretations mark a shift from surface-level branding toward a deeper aesthetic and emotional storytelling. At the same time, legacy brands once associated with the aspirational mass-market are repositioning themselves to reflect these new codes of exclusivity. This shift can be clearly exemplified by The Gap, arguably the emblem of mall-brand ubiquity, which has launched *GapStudio*, a sleek clothing line with a higher price point. This rebranding was communicated through stars like Timothée Chalamet who wore a custom GAP outfit to the 2025 Oscars nominee dinner (Figure 13.). Similarly to Bode, brands like The Elder Statesman and Amiri present distinct interpretations of American luxury grounded in subculture, craftsmanship, and lifestyle. The Elder Statesman channels California’s 1990s surf and rave scenes into ultra-colourful, artisanal knitwear, while Amiri mixes streetwear with rock-inspired tailoring. These brands create experiences that go beyond the product, emphasizing authenticity and cultural depth over the traditional European markers of refinement. So, as previously mentioned, we can conclude that this wide spectrum of approaches emphasises a larger cultural transformation. The American conception of luxury no longer adheres to a singular model but thrives on diversity, hybridity, and reinvention. It reflects a broader reimagining of American cultural codes, where symbols once rooted in tradition or mainstream conservatism are reinterpreted to speak to a global, experience-driven audience. Brands now have the opportunity to create new narratives rooted in memory, subculture, and emotional resonance. American designers are carving out space not just in the marketplace, but in the cultural imagination. They are no longer simply
